On September 25, 2018, FISH of Greater New Haven will mark its 50th year with the Gold FISH Gala. We cordially invite you to join us in recognizing and celebrating the individuals and community partners who have helped FISH reach this milestone.

Since 1968, through grassroots community action and leadership, FISH has been responding to the needs of our neighbors who face obstacles accessing traditional soup kitchens or food pantries. FISH responds to every service request either through acceptance into the program or a practical referral to a local pantry. Program innovations such as the implementation of a Vulnerability Index, which uses a defined set of criteria, ensure scarce resources are provided to those most in need: the chronically ill, elderly, disabled and veterans.

In 2017 FISH made 4,428 deliveries to 584 households. This represents 164,637 meals for 1,143 individuals, a 30% increase since 2016. We are currently serving New Haven, West Haven and Hamden. Each monthly delivery includes 2 bags of groceries per household member, assorted shelf-stable items, fresh produce and dairy. An additional bag of assorted frozen meats and fish is provided for each household to share. This averages to about 45 pounds of food per person. This is accomplished with two paid staff members and the support of hundreds of volunteers. Purchases from the Connecticut Food Bank and Massaro Community Farm account for 60% of the food distributed, while 40% is donated from local distributors and community food drives. Grocery packing and deliveries are primarily performed by our partner agencies, which focus on programs for the cognitively impaired. Marrakech, Opportunity House, Kennedy Center, ACORD, Goodwill SNE, Benhaven and Chapel Haven are a few of the many agencies whose clients benefit from engagement in FISH’s program.

All sponsorships and silent auction proceeds from the Gold FISH Gala will directly support our mission to provide groceries to our homebound neighbors. Your support ensures that we will continue to deliver on our core mission and increase our ability to accept new, qualified clients into the program.

Please consider supporting FISH through a sponsorship, silent auction donation and/or attending this event, which will be hosted by Anthony’s Ocean View, 450 Lighthouse Road, in New Haven. With negligible overhead and low operating costs, FISH is a wise steward of your donation. Thank you for your consideration and support.
